My Background

About Kathryn Miller

I have always had a passion for working with young people and helping to get them launched in their colleges and careers.  I truly love listening to teens and serving as a sounding board for their thoughts, their plans and their dreams. After years of personal experience, I decided to get professional training and open my own educational consulting practice fifteen years ago.

My degree in Speech and Speech Education is from Northwestern University, and I served on their Alumni Admissions Council, interviewing prospective students for over 20 years. I am also a graduate of the University of California certification program for Independent Educational Consulting, the only program of its type in the nation.

As a sales and marketing professional for nearly 30 years, I held multiple career development and executive positions while at IBM Corporation.  I also successfully ran my own sales company, while actively raising my two sons. One graduated from Northwestern University and the University of Colorado School of Medicine, and is a now a doctor of internal medicine for the Denver VA Medical Center and an assistant professor at CU medical school. The other graduated from the University of Colorado - College of Engineering and Applied Science and is now a senior software engineer for Apple in San Francisco.

My volunteer work has always focused on young people.  I have served as committee chair of school accountability, gifted and talented, and speech and debate programs, as well as the Boy Scouts. I was active in Cherry Creek School District’s Parent Information Network for over a decade, serving on their board and as chair. In 2009, I was delighted to be honored as the “Exceptional Volunteer” for Cherry Creek High School.  I am also an alumna of St. Mary's Academy in Englewood.

For four years, I served on the Board of the Higher Education Consultants Association (HECA), the premiere professional organization, with over 1,000 member educational consultants worldwide. I also welcome pro bono work in my practice, as well as other volunteer opportunities and speaking engagements.  My husband and I both regularly enjoy travel, hiking, and reading, as well as family activities.

I am a member of the following professional associations for college admissions consultants, regularly attend their conferences and seminars, and adhere to their respective guidelines for standards and ethics:
